What do these performance measures mean?
The Good Level of Development (GLD) is an assessment made at the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). It is based on teacher judgement of a child’s learning across key areas, including communication and language, physical development, and personal, social and emotional development, as well as early literacy and maths. Children are assessed against the Early Learning Goals, and outcomes reflect how well they have met these expectations by the end of Reception.
Meeting the expected standard (Reception)
Children achieve a Good Level of Development if they meet the expected level in the prime areas of learning and in literacy and mathematics. This judgement shows that a child has the key skills and understanding needed for a successful start in Year 1. Outcomes are used to identify strengths and any areas where further support may be needed as pupils move into Key Stage 1.
