What do these performance measures mean?
The multiplication tables check (MTC) assesses how well pupils can recall multiplication facts up to 12 × 12. It follows the same format each year, with different but equally challenging questions for each pupil. There is no official pass mark; instead, pupils receive a score out of 25, showing how secure their multiplication knowledge is.
Meeting the expected standard (Year 4)
There is no fixed expected standard. However, a higher score (closer to 25) indicates strong and fluent recall. Results are used to identify strengths and gaps in knowledge, helping teachers plan support and next steps, rather than serving as a pass or fail measure.
