Our Graduated Response and SEND Identification

At Springhead Primary School, we are committed to identifying and supporting pupils' needs as early as possible. We recognise that every child is unique and may require different levels of support throughout their educational journey.

To ensure pupils receive the right support at the right time, we use a Graduated Response. This allows us to identify barriers to learning, plan effective support and regularly review progress in partnership with parents, carers and external professionals where appropriate.

We have developed a range of Graduated Response pathways to support different areas of need, including:

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Graduated Response

Our EYFS Graduated Response supports the early identification of additional needs and ensures children receive the appropriate support during their first years at school. This pathway focuses on communication, learning, development, emotional wellbeing and school readiness, helping children to build strong foundations for future learning.

Cognition and Learning Graduated Response

This pathway supports pupils who may experience difficulties with reading, writing, maths, memory, concentration, processing information or other aspects of learning. Through targeted support and intervention, we work to remove barriers and enable children to develop confidence and independence as learners.

Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) Graduated Response

Our SEMH Graduated Response supports pupils whose emotional wellbeing, behaviour, relationships or mental health may be impacting on their learning and daily school experience. Through pastoral support, emotional wellbeing interventions and partnership working with families and external agencies, we aim to help children develop resilience, self-regulation and positive coping strategies.

Across all pathways, we follow the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle outlined in the SEND Code of Practice to ensure support is carefully planned, regularly monitored and responsive to individual need.
