Reception at Springhead Primary School continues our commitment to a nurturing, play‑based Early Years education, while gently introducing children to more structured learning. Through strong relationships, high expectations and a curriculum full of stories, adventure and exploration, children are supported to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
Children attend Reception full‑time from 8:50am to 3:15pm, helping them build confidence and independence as they prepare for the next stage of their learning.
Our Ethos and Environment
Our dedicated Early Years team creates a calm, welcoming and purposeful learning environment where every child feels safe, valued and encouraged to succeed. We believe that children learn best when they feel secure and supported, and we place a strong emphasis on positive relationships, clear routines and high expectations. Our Reception classrooms reflect our school ethos of “Working Together to Achieve Our Best.”
Learning in Reception
Learning in Reception is carefully planned to build on children’s Nursery experiences and support a smooth transition into full‑time school. Teaching is rooted in the EYFS Framework and combines purposeful play with more structured adult‑led learning. Children are encouraged to explore, ask questions, develop ideas and apply new skills across all areas of learning.
Learning Through Play
Play remains central to learning in Reception. Through engaging activities, children investigate, create, problem‑solve and develop independence. Skilled practitioners support and extend learning through thoughtful interactions, modelling language, and introducing new challenges that build children’s confidence and resilience.
Indoor and Outdoor Learning
We provide rich learning opportunities both indoors and outdoors. Our well‑resourced environments allow children to move, explore, collaborate and take risks in their learning, supporting physical development, creativity and curiosity alongside early reading, writing and mathematics.
Supporting a Smooth Transition
We recognise the importance of a positive transition into Reception. Children are supported to settle into the routines of the school day, develop friendships and feel confident as full‑time learners, working closely with families to ensure every child feels happy and secure.
